Cervical Curvature and Whiplash

Abstract

Objective:

To determine if manual therapy will decrease symptoms of WAD.

Summary and background:

Millions of Americans are affected each year by whiplash after a motor vehicle accident. Majority of people complained of persistent neck pain, 84% have a lack of or reverse of cervical curve.

Methods:

Manual therapy was administered in the approximately 4 years post car accident. Therapy consisted of cervical mobilization, cranial balancing, and an hour massage was applied two times for 10 consecutive weeks.

Results:

The patient’s migraines decreased, cervical curvature increased.

Conclusion:

Manual therapy techniques can decrease migraine and cervical pain. Pain decrease was not enough to be considered significant, further study is needed.
